The Sterling Morton Library at the Research Center -- The Morton ArboretumThe Morton Arboretum is a botanical garden in Lisle, Illinois, a western suburb of Chicago, which specializes in the display and study of trees, shrubs, and vines. At 1,700 acres, the Arboretum features more than 41,000 plants including several thousand varieties which come from other parts of the world. It was formally established on December 14, 1922 by Mr. Joy Morton (1855-1934), owner of the Morton Salt Company.
Part of the research center includes The Sterling Morton Library which the photographs in this section depict. They were taken by Trent Roberson who also contributed many of the photographs taken at the Arboretum, currently seen throughout other parts of the gallery section at FlashPortFoto. The Sterling Morton Library is an interesting architectural accomplishment which features bookcases laid out in an eliptical-shaped floor plan. The library was designed by Harry Weese and opened in 1963. |
